He stared out at the Ocean. It moved, it swayed, and he stared at it eyes unblinking. It called to him, in a way he had never known before.
The sun burned down, making his skin feel hot. He stood up, walking toward the water, the sand moving underneath his feet. With each step he felt something inside him, a pull towards the ocean and all the things it held.
He got closer and closer, and finally his legs were in the water. It felt so good, he kept walking into the ocean because it told him to. "Caleb." The sea breeze whispered in his ear. "Come to us Caleb." It said. So he did.
"Caleb? CALEB?!" His mother screamed, jumping up and running. She didn't see her baby boy get up, she didn't see him make his way towards the ocean. He was so far away from her.
The hands were long and bony, they were black as the night. They grabbed him and pulled him under. His mother screamed and screamed. "CALEB!!!" But she was too late. The black bony hands had taken him deep under the water. Farther and farther down until Caleb couldn't see the bright burning sun any longer.
He could feel his lungs wanting to explode, he could feel his body giving up. Finally, he closed his eyes. He was at peace.
Caleb woke up to sound of the Kayla banging on the door. He rubbed his eyes, the dream playing over and over in his mind. It was always the same, every year on his birthday he'd have the dream.
"Caleb, come on your gonna be late for your own party!" Kayla ran in and jumped onto his bed, shaking it. "I'm coming, I'm coming." He laughed. She ran from his room, giggling down the hallway. He followed her, shutting the door behind him, he hadn't even realized his hands were shaking.
He hated this month, He hated Summer. He looked out the window and far in the distance he could see the ocean. It swayed as it had in his dream. He turned away, continuing down the hallway. He hated the Ocean
most of all.
